Hi all

I have posted a short tutorial on how I paint medieval heraldry on my 28mm figures on my blog at vellamike61.blogspot.com

Hope you will read and find it useful :)

Yes very good. Depressing for those like me whonwould posdibly never manage 4 similar looking Eagles, if they were eagles that is.

Fantastic work

I know I will never have the skill, time or patience to do that

Have been using decals for that kind of thing

The one thing I would add is that heraldry on the 'reverse' of the barding (on the rider's right') is reversed. With animals, this means that they almost always look towards the horse's head.

@Jcfrog no need to get depressed. Keep giving it your best shot and you're bound to see improvements – I know as I've had more than my fair share of disasters in the past so I'm talking from experience believe me.

@jwebster nothing wrong with decals but I find it's more a question of technique than skill. But it is definitely time consuming, that yes.

@Swampster, many thanks for pointing that out as I was not aware of it. Will compensate in future.

Yes in heraldry normaly the head faces front or the flag staff etc. complicating our lives sometimes.

Just looked at your blog and the post previous to the one linked.

Amazing heirloom quality miniatures! The detailing on the inside of the caparison did not go unnoticed.

They are definitely something to pass down from generation to generation.

Wow! Amazing work. I really like the earlier blog with the Lion Rampant retinue as well. Some great ideas to steal but I dont think that I will be able to execute them with such skill and precision!

@wmyers Thanks a lot for your comments and glad you went through my previous posts as well. The thought of producing heirlooms never really crossed my mind. Now I have an added responsibility on my shoulders (sigh!) :D

@Arcane Steve Feel free to help yourself Steve! I'm sure you'll do well as long as you persist and don't give up too quickly. I still constantly experiment with paint flow and thickness mostly because different colours have different pigment strength and transparency. Try use the tip of the brush (as opposed to the sides) as much as possible.
