I'd be grateful for book recommendations describing Roman battles and campaigns of Marius, Sulla, Caesar, Octavian and Germanicus. Not looking for one book to cover them all. wink Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Caesar Life of a Colossus by Adrian Goldsworthy is a great biography with very detailed info for most of his battles.

Rubicon by Tom Holland is good for Marius and Sulla in terms of campaigns but slim on battle details. In the Name of Rome by Adrian Goldsworthy gives some decent battle info.

Haven't actually read them, but these two:

would seem to fit the criteria.

There are a series of novels written by Colleen McCullough that cover the rise of Marius, Sulla and Julius Caesar. Not history books as such, but worth a read.

Thanks all for the recommendations!

You may want to check out academia.edu – you can find papers and articles on specific battles there, as well as lots of utterly irrelevant but sometimes interesting stuff.

It depends on what you are looking for.
If you are interested in Roman-Germanic wars I would recommend the superb Osprey Teutoburg Forest AD 9, or Adrian Murdoch's Rome's Greatest Defeat. Osprey also did a book in their combat series on Romans vs Germanic that covers the campaigns of Germanicus.
If you are interested in Roman campaigns in Britain I would recommend John Waite's Boudicca's Last Stand and To Rule Britannia.
Since you asked for books on the campaigns of Caesar Osprey has a lot of good books on his Gallic Wars and war with Pompey.
