"Acosta Ñú fue una de las más terribles batallas de la historia militar mundial, ocurrida en el año 1869. De un lado estaban los brasileros con 20.000 hombres, del otro, en el medio de un círculo, los paraguayos con 3.500 soldados de entre 9 y 15 años y algunos niños de 6, 7 y 8 años.

Esta batalla es el símbolo más terrible de la crueldad de esa guerra: los niños de 6 a 8 años, en el calor de la batalla, aterrados, se agarraban de las piernas de los soldados brasileros llorando, pidiendo que no los maten. Pero a pesar de las suplicas, eran degollados en el acto…."
