By look of the uniform alone, which three would you choose for either side? |

Easy call for me. Only two in Zouave uniform in my collection: CSA – LOUISIANA TIGERS USA – 114th PA – COLLIS ZOUAVES Others honorable mention (not in full Zouave uniform), but do have some minor distinctions: CSA – 13th MISS (LAUDERDALE ZOUAVES) – dress uniform USA – 44th NY (ELLSWORTH AVENGERS) – red trim |

Along with the Tigers I like the 10th NY who faced the Texas Brigade at 2nd Manassas. |

Of course my Tigers and 5th New York. Were there any other Zouave units in the ACW? As a third special uniform unit, the Garabaldi Guards. |

10th New York National Zouaves 11th New York 114th PA. Collis' Zouaves Louisiana Tigers 14th Brooklyn (84th NY) wasn't a Zouave Regiment. They were Chasseurs. link |

I believe the 114 PA was the only unit to keep the Zouave uniform throughout the war. |

MiniPigs. Great question! I have only ever done Bushwhackers posted on here some time ago. Long story, but all to do with one of my sons doing a PhD on the Guerilla War in Missouri/Kansas and needing a desk ornament. He keeps hinting about a unit of Zouaves and, to be honest, the Louisiana Tigers are the only ones I know. I get confused about turbans/fez/even kepis or forage caps for headwear as they seem such a motley lot. I honestly thought chasseurs were Zouaves by the 1860s! Could anyone post a few pictures to inspire me? Adam's Brigade at Waterloo I do feel more comfortable with |

14th Brooklyn were not Zouaves they were chasseurs as were the 83rd Penn. The 83rd ordered their uniforms from the same French company which furnished to the French Army. A lot of them were a really tight fit. |

This is a great book. It could use more color plates but it is an excellent reference for your home library.

Are we talking full Regiments or Zouave Companies that were around for a short time and then just got sucked into larger standard Regiments? |
Au pas de Charge | 18 Sep 2019 11:11 a.m. PST |
Either, really. I would just mask the regiment and let it wear what the sole company wore. Ima get that book! |

I have one each of kepis, fezzes, and turbans. Throw in one the LA Tigers for the CSA boys. Since I play mostly FNF I don;'t get hung up on specific units other than in the original painting of the troops. |
corzin | 19 Sep 2019 10:03 a.m. PST |
just a thought when applied to units in the ACW, the word "zoauve" means something different than what the word means in most other contexts. so while not being textbook "zoauves"….the 14th Brooklyn were ACW zoauves |
Cleburne1863 | 19 Sep 2019 2:25 p.m. PST |
I intentionally referred to the 14th Brooklyn uniform as a chasseur uniform. |
