I am wondering if anyone has ever put together a book that lays out the "typical" organization of the various division types from the major protagonists of WWII and how they progressed. I am imagining a TO&E on one or two page diagram for each division type. I know this information is around in various sources but it would be convenient to have it all in one place. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. |

I *love* F&F. After avoiding Regimental because of the added complexity due to the inclusion of troop quality and armament of each unit/battery, I see it's now part of the Brigade game as well. Sigh… Were I to pull the trigger on 2nd Edition, where would I find the information now required to create scenarios, that is, I've read a fair amount of ACW histories but rarely have they included what each brigade was armed with. Any suggestions? How do you guys tackle this problem. Thanks, Steve |

I just wing it. Union Batteries with more 3" rifles and figure that small arms average out. IF more detailed info is available I'd use it, but not let it get in the way of a game |

Rich, the author of Fire and Fury, has provided some very helpful tables in the back of the Brigade Rules 2nd edition that illustrate the probability of weapon types by year and by region (East and West). While some books and internet articles will provide some of these details you can always revert to his tables to put together a credible scenario. He also has released the Western Scenario book for the 2nd edition. Maybe the game you want to play is already in there. |

I used a version of fire and fury but actually the best rules are the old SPI board game ones work great. |

Didn't RAFM a long, long time ago put out a little 8 x 5 book that showed organizations and regimental strengths of most of the divisions/corps that served in the ACW? I think I still have that somewhere and recall that is was quite useful in setting up standard sized units for each year of the war. |

Go get the computer games by John Tiller. His covered battles now go from Ball's Bluff to Appomattox. There are a multitude of historical and hypothetical scenarios and becuase it is regimental, have all the TOE and strengths and weapon types you could ever want. Plus, should you not want to do your own game on the table, are excellent plays, especially against a human opponent. |
