… tank hunter vehicles (late cold war) Hi there . Just needed a helping hand understanding what model of tank destroyers were allocated to which units . As far as I can understand , the FV438 was allocated to tank units , the Striker to recon units , and the Spartan MCT to infantry units . Is that correct? . Thank you in advance . |

The FV438 equipped the Guided Weapon Troop in the Armoured Regiments up until possibly the early to mid 80's (my sources are very vague on dates) when it was replaced by the Striker. Around about 1989 the Strikers became a Brigade level attachment although, I think, they were allocated to the Reconnaissance Regiments for the Covering Force battle. The Spartan MCT formed the mobile section of the Infantry Battalion's Milan Platoon from around 1987 and appear to have been phased out when Warrior replaced the FV432 in the Anti-tank Platoon. Hope this helps (if a bit vague). |
