"China says it has developed a new hunter drone that can disable other drones -- or even small aircraft -- by firing a 16-square-meter (172 square feet) web at them.

"Caught by the web, the hostile drone should lose power and fall to ground," said a report on the Chinese military's English-language website.

Developed by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, the drone can work alone but also can integrate with China's defense system for small, slow and low-flying targets, according to the report…."

Seems like a waste of effort.

If it is actually firing a web, then it must be short range. Why not shoot it down from a distance, rather than run right up to it and "web it"?

If it is firing some kind of projectile that releases a web… why not just fire a normal projectile?

The article says the webs are "fired" but the picture just shows them being towed/dragged by drones.

What about the webs will cause the target drone to lose power?

Wouldn't a target drone be more nimble than a drone dragging a net behind it?

The web will get entangled in the target's propellers, I think.

The advantage of webs over projectiles is reduction of harm to unintended targets. If you miss with a projectile and hit a civilian, you may have a dead or seriously wounded civilian. A civilian hit with a web is probably just inconvenienced.

I keep waiting for a news story,…

In Green Bay, Wisconsin, Mrs. Carla Hooper went onto her porch, where she was blown to bits by a Hellfire missile.

While, in Western Syria, at an Al Qaida training base, Hassan al Bin Wasani, steps from his tent, only to be accosted by an Amazon drone trying to deliver a new food processor addressed to a Mrs Carla Hooper…

They left out the part where the drone fires the web out it's butt (like a real spider. Spiderman has never done that, to my knowledge…)

@Zephyr1: He never does that in the official Marvel universe(s).

I think Sony might have just done that.
