"Best action sequence in a movie" Topic

The sequence does not have to involve guns or fiery explosions. Someone running from a collapsing building or sinking ship, or a chase scene are valid suggestions.

I'm having a hard time deciding. But the scene in Die Hard 2, when John McClane fights the bad guys dressed as painters are one of my favourites.

And the bank robbery scene in HEAT I feel should be an obligatory options.

The motorcycle vs semi truck chase in T2 is another one.

The fist fight scene on the top of airplane between Indy and the German NCO in Raiders of the Lost Ark rates up there for me. Does it qualify as an action sequence?

Yes, that is very action packed scene.

Battle of Britain. The 'montage' sequence of various aerial combats.

The charge of the light brigade.

The opening sequence from Enemy at the Gates, following the Russian reinforcements from the rear area, across the hell of the Volga River and directly into combat in the center of Stalingrad.

How could I forget, the last house fight in A Better Tomorrow 2. 15 minutes, 4 good guys 80 bad guys, in the end everybody dies.

It's not really a big action sequence but the knife fight between Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro in The Hunted is just brutal.

Finally after years of being a pundit they got it right and the German tanks, trucks, and half-tracks actually looked like German WWII equipment and NOT US surplus armor or obsolete Soviet armor (Return to Navarone)with an Iron Cross painted on it.

The painter scene in DieHard2 shares a lot of similarities to the church shootout in John Woo's The Killer. Not saying that's bad…

I like most of those mentioned and will add the shootout in the train station of The Untouchables.

The firefight Heat, up the street, outside the bank is probably as good as it gets (minus the shot by Pacino that ends it). Final fight from The Wild Bunch is classic, as well.

That's all most movies are nowadays, a bunch of action sequences strung together. Most are so over the top and unrealistic that they turn out to be real yawners. Some of the most interesting, and therefore the best, are from some of the older movies named before cgi. But as a kid, I think the snow battle at the beginning of the second Star Wars movie was so exciting, it had me talking about it for months.
