I know this question has been asked again and again over the years but there is just so many subjects in the WWII Discussion board (trying to find a relevant past subject is tough) and there isn't a 10mm WWII Discussion Board that I will ask it again here.

I have become very interested in doing WWII in 10mm and was wondering if those of you who use scale could recommend one or more manufacturers to get going. I have looked at Pendraken and Minifig and both seem very nice. Recommendations most appreciated.

I love 10mm, got loads of it.

There are several different 10mm manufacturers; Lancer looks a cool up and comer, and many have come and gone, but you've nailed it, Pendraken and Minifigs are the big dogs.

If you skip past the battle reports there are loads of pics of WWII and modern on this blog:

I love my 10mm

WW2 I recommend Pendraken and Minifigs in the UK

gianpippo28 Aug 2019 3:19 a.m. PST

In addition to Pendraken and Minifig I suggest also Pithead

pithead-miniatures.tk

I mix all of them in my armies, together with 3d-printed vehicles

If you are looking for buildings and terrain pieces, PaperTerrain has one of the largest selections of 10mm scale products around.

Thanks so much guys. I really appreciate your web page Andrew. A great resource.

WARNING most 10mm infantry arn't they are 12mm. 10mm vehicles and 12mm infantry look a daft together.
Some vehicles were a bit big for10mm so now are labeled 10/12mm which is again a farce. Vehicles can only be to one scale or the other. So do you mean 10mm (no idea what scale that is) or 12mm by which I mean a 5 ft 8" bloke in his stocking feet and no hat is about 12mm, that is 1/144 scale. Lots of plastics available from World Tank Museum for this this scale excellent ready painted, best there is if the do what you want.

Dragon also has come nicely painted 1/144th as does Trumpeter among others. I am with you UshCha I wish folks would use 1/160th, 1/150th or 1/144th which are scales rather than 10 or 12mm.

Also note there are quite a few pre-painted (though some require some assembly) aircraft for your forces.

Okay, who makes 1/144 scale infantry? Pure ignorance on my part; I usually only see "mm" in anything less than 1/76. I also prefer correct scale.

UshCha28 Aug 2019 1:39 p.m. PST

Pendragon are 12mm, the old minifigs are to name 2.

MiniPatton28 Aug 2019 6:08 p.m. PST

Almost all of my collection is Pendraken. Started using Timecast for my cold war stuff.

Thresher0128 Aug 2019 6:22 p.m. PST

That is why I prefer 12mm, or 1/144th scale vehicles and troops.

gianpippo28 Aug 2019 11:15 p.m. PST

Always the old discussion about scale :-)
prepainted 1:144 vehicles are really much larger than the metal ones which should be 1:150.
I don't have the problem any more by 3D printing all my vehicles at 1:150.
For infantry I use nearly only Pendraken. Minifigs are similar in size but not in style.
Fotos of my painted 10 mm DAK. Infantry Pendraken, vehicles Pendraken/Pithead/Minifig/3d-printed, even a 1:144 prepainted Tiger. In my opinion they mix quite well on the playing table

Even at 1/50 platic is better than 10mm models that are much smaller.

Why manufactures can't cope with a scale amazes me. Small companies like AOTRS Shipyards get it right but big scale manufactures seem incapable of eveb simple arithmatic and as for their understanding of anatomy the mind boggles, you would have thought just looking around would give them a clue.

wargamer629 Aug 2019 1:02 a.m. PST

There are six main producers of 10/12mm WW2 miniatures. The oldest is Minifigs who make a good range of models in this scale and were at one time available in the USA.
Next up is Pendraken who are probably the most well known producer as they run a popular miniatures forum and publish an excellent set of rules for WW2, Blitzkrieg Commander.
Pithead has the biggest range of Miniatures in this scale, in fact here is practically nothing they don't make but unlike Pendraken they only produce WW2 models and the website is a bit dated and sometimes difficult to open when a lot of people are using it.
The best quality by far are the models made by Arrowhead whose range unfortunately is fairly small but the detail is very good.
Another upcoming company is Lancer Miniatures who sell models at very competitive prices, the range is small but is currently the fastest expanding

Steamingdave229 Aug 2019 2:29 a.m. PST

Vehicles from Arrowhead are by far the best white metal ones, although Minifigs do some nice ones as well. The prepainted plastics from the likes of Trumpeter, Popy, Cando, Panzer Depot etc are also very good, especially if your main interest is mid to late war. All of these are really 1:144 scale.,My infantry are almost all Minifigs and Pendraken, which go well with the 1:144 vehicles. Quite different in style, but once painted and based, they can be used together.
If you can ever get hold of Blitzkrieg miniatures from Bend Sinister, they are excellent. I have a Polish early war army, with a lot of their infantry and some of their beautiful 7TP tanks. Unfortunately the owner is rather unresponsive to email contacts and I had to fill out the army with Pendraken models, which are OK, but the tanks etc are not as crisply modelled as the Blitzkrieg range.
Beware of Skytrex, often sold on Ebay as "10mm" they are actually 1:200 scale and so quite incompatible with all of the main " 10mm" ranges mentioned in the posts so far

Just to jump in on the scaling, we work to 1:150th for our ranges. The figures themselves measure 10mm to the eye / 11.5mm to the top of the head, which equates to a real-life height of 5ft 8in.

There's a few models in our ranges which were done over 20 years ago now and don't hit the 150th ratio but we're working to replace those over the coming years.

WARGAMESBUFF30 Aug 2019 11:31 p.m. PST

HI Leon, I love my SAS jeep and trucks :)

Lancer5831 Aug 2019 10:39 a.m. PST

My range is 1/150 its a small range but its growing as fast as possible. Hoping to get some Russian infantry sorted soon, and crew for my 25pdr.

I took a look at the Lancer line. Very nice, The infantry look really good.

Lancer5819 Nov 2019 10:27 a.m. PST

Concerning scale which is something we all notice on the table, did a little thing on youtube YouTube link
thats 1/150 against a 1/144, must admit I was surprised when I put them next to each other.

Lancer5824 Dec 2019 1:55 p.m. PST

Just added the Sd.Kfz 251/D and the Cromwell CS to my range. My sculptor will be working on the Hetzer next.

Thresher0124 Dec 2019 10:18 p.m. PST

Yea, 10mm and 12mm "scales" are confusing, and misnomers really, in my opinion.

Personally, I view 1/144th scale as 12mm.

Mathematically, 10mm should really be about 1/180th, or so, but that's not the way some see it, as you can see from the above posts.

Most of the plastics are 1/144th (12mm), as is Arrowhead.
