I am working on a alternative history project and need some input on a clash between 4,000 Zulu's and 1,000 Confederate cavalry. I am using Fire and Fury V2 rules and I am looking for suggestions on troop quality for the Zulus as well as movement rates and any special rules that might apply.

Thanks in advance.

Zulus usually did very badly against cavalry, however brave the impi.

MiniPigs comment I cannot better. Absolutely right

Not my idea just helping someone out, but your point made. Good form!

I'm intrigued. On which continent is this happening?

GROSSMAN23 Aug 2019 5:32 p.m. PST

In the US Civil war, Zulus are brought in by the north to run guerrilla campaign in the South to tie down forces.

That's pretty left-field :)

Zulus were not the typical "guerrilla" soldiers.

That's all well and good until the Zulus meet the South's Gurkhas…

oh come on. Lighten up gents.

I am a visiting Napoleonic buff who has not thrown a dice in nearly forty years (and that was Heroics and Ros WWII and some one who did metal WWI trench figures in 1/72)

We have to allow British longbowmen to face a Roman legion or a SYW Prussian line. Have none of you ever read how Lee's troop got AK47s from the future (now that is a book to read) and wanted to play it?

Minipigs is 100% right though, about the two sides relative competencies and technology available, even in the 1860s

Don't blame me, Im just helping someone out who is writing a book. I myself don't go for alternative or extended history stuff.

There is a big flaw in this project as it seems to lack focus. The original concept was the North brought in Zulus
"to run guerrilla campaign in the South to tie down forces."

This would suggest small bands of Zulu warrior training larger bands of southern slaves. A guerilla war could mean isolated attacks of outlying areas, railways, factories et.I don't see impi tactics but small hit and run raids The Zulus could use firearms. How Zulu speaking warriors would communicate with the slaves is one point.

Would probably be better 'hiring' various Native Americans to be guerilla fighters in the South.

The Zulus were the farthest thing from guerilla fighters.
