A catastrophe has struck and destroys your gaming collection. What's the first piece/game/part you buy to restore it? If your collection is large and consists of multiple miniatures eras and/or board games, which era would you restore first or which game would you buy first?

cavcrazy22 Aug 2019 5:14 p.m. PST

It already happened. I started with my AWI Continentals.

WWII: American and German airborne for Carentan

Tough one.

After crying for a week (or maybe more), I'll firstly replace Blackstone Fortress since I'm in the middle of building those miniatures and it looks like it's going to be a fun game.

Simultaneously, or soon thereafter, I'd be scouring Ebay to replace my early Citadel Fantasy Tribe ranges.

I'd start fresh in 10mm-- maybe SYW; new scale and new period.

Napoleonics in soft plastic--cheap and usable on a small table. Probably microscale H&M and WWII to follow. Then if I were still alive and functioning, 28mm H&M.

Pictors Studio22 Aug 2019 6:23 p.m. PST

Probably my Adeptus Titanicus stuff. That is the smallest thing that I think I could face redoing after that loss.

Chuckaroobob22 Aug 2019 6:25 p.m. PST

Really don't know. My interests vary a lot over time. Might just give up.

Clays Russians22 Aug 2019 6:35 p.m. PST

I know this is the "TMP" but it would have to be Commands and colors Napoleonics… core set, plus expansion part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, and the upcoming part 7!!!!

Stryderg22 Aug 2019 6:50 p.m. PST

My collection is so spread out and incomplete, I would probably start fresh and try to limit myself to 2 or 3 periods that I could stay focued on.

Maybe 6mm big stompy robots, space ships (Full Thrust), and fantasy skirmish.

My sanity

Narratio22 Aug 2019 7:07 p.m. PST

Nervous breakdown, rehab, lots of therapy… Start fresh, forget by beloved 6mm and drop down to 3mm SYW. Then go rob a bank to rebuild my Europa game collection.

Lascaris22 Aug 2019 8:41 p.m. PST

Team Yankee. I know it's not a "simulation" but I was in the service from '77-85 and I like gaming in that era.

Quit
play other people's games
Too old and too poor to start over

Probably drop the hobby. Like Redback, too old to redo 30+ years of work.

D A THB23 Aug 2019 2:49 a.m. PST

I'd probably give up on my existing collections and instead start something new using Perry Plastics like ACW or 100 Years War.

Andy Tea23 Aug 2019 3:47 a.m. PST

I have thought about this before and I probably wouldn't replace most of it but see it as a freash start and just get new stuff instead

what would be first would mostly depend on what I was likely to get a game of in the foreseeable future

Generic dark ages units with Spear and Shield that could be expanded to fit a number of ancients or fantasy armies.
