I did in 2006. Spent about an hour there which allowed me to complete the tour of all the marked regimental/ clan positions.

I was amazed by the ruggedness of the terrain. Made me really appreciate what the Highlanders attempted.

My wife wasn't reading "Outlander" yet so she was less than overwhelmed. She still swears to this day that I spent 2.5 hours at the site.

It was appropriately foggy and drizzling when I was there.

What were your thoughts?

I was there before the new research caused them t reorient the lines of battle. The line of battle marked by flags and the visitor center were impressive in 1985. The site was illuminating.

Never been there and apparently the small group of my ancestors who set out to fight for Charles Edward Stuart never got there either.

FWIW, my name is on the acknowledgements page in "Outlander". I really don't think I deserve it.

Just to pass through on my way to Auldearn. The cabbie insisted I was missing "the battlefield." Thank Heaven there was a plaque at Auldearn, or he'd still be telling stories about the crazy Yank.

Went there last year with a couple of mates whilst we were camping in the area.

Excellent visitors centre (though food and drink was a bit pricey!) and very enlightening walking the field itself; a mix of marsh and thick patches of undergrowth to climb through can't have been much fun to cross while wearing a kilt with no underkrackers…all those thorns etc and the jacobites would have needed armour plated nether regions!

One of those friends and I are about to start a '45 project partly inspired by our visit.

Yes, in 1975 as a kid. I always remember the lack of birdsong in the woods or on the moors around the cairns and the headstones, so eerily silent. Sill have a wall map I bought showing all the regiments and their positions at the battle. Rather crumpled but quite detailed.

I went there in 2017. Wife was an Outlander fan so I didn't have to convince her. I enjoyed the experience. The marked out lines of battle were illuminating.

Cheers,

Yes. Went with my wife on a break from the kiddywinks. Great visitors' centre.
