Hi all, I'm looking at painting my 8th army for Flames of War and ran into a dilemma. I bought their "Colours of War" book that has Vallejo paints used for all of the vehicles instead of their own (now discontinued?) War Colours range that was I guess renamed Vallejo paints.

Anyways, the book says to use Model Color 847 Dark Sand to represent Light Stone No. 61. It *also* shows this same color in an example that's supposed to be Desert Pink (and in the Armored Fist book it was a different color entirely used for the same picture).

Obviously, the same color can't be used for both. Has anyone found a Vallejo color that is a close enough match to Desert Pink? Preferably without mixing. I also noticed that Model Air had a color called Desert Pink (71.400) that's supposedly based on Mike Starmer's book, but I haven't been able to find any examples online of what this color looks like when used on a model. Has anyone used this color and could verify if it's pretty accurate?

I've had similar problems finding anything like desert pink without having to mix paints.

I ended up using Army Painter Kobold skin, prob'ly a bit too dark for 15mm but I'm happy enough with it.

Thanks, King Monkey! I didn't even consider Army Painter; those are reasonable for me to get as well since a local game store stocks their range.

Humbrol 250 is a desert pink IIRC correctly, however it is only available as an enamel paint.

How about LifeColor? I've heard of their paints but never used them and I do see they have a WW2 British Africa paint set that has Light Stone and Desert Pink.

I ended up ordering the Vallejo Model Air set for British in the desert. It specifically says it was made in collaboration with Mike Starmer so that should be the closest representation since he's the guru on the colors.

Just an aside. I have several sets of LifeColor. The paint is on the thin side since I believe it is optimized for airbrushing.
