Having watched several episodes of Lard TV and in particular the Battlefield trip to Best in the Netherlands, I was wondering what people thought of this new resource of Battlefield films by wargamers for wargamers? |

I subscribe to several YouTube broadcasters and the quality is variable. Some modelling, some wargaming and some historical: there are people who have a much better grasp of the media than others. I'm not talking about Lard TV in particular but there are some facets which let several people down. Firstly, have a script. Better still, dub over your video. Some people are just all over the place. Editing is never wasted – so many are just a shambling, directionless with focus issues largely because they are trying to do it all themselves live. I'm no prude but clean up your language – most people are pretty good but there are a few out there who seem to lack control or a filter. Generally I prefer if people get to the point – there's a lot of wasted time and it really shouldn't take 5 minutes to present a 30 second technique. Finally I'd respectfully suggest that none of these people are super-stars in the making – so don't make it about you – it's about the subject matter. Your jokes are most likely not funny and your ego may be on too obvious a display – there are exceptions of course. For what it's worth … full credit to anyone all of those who have broadcasted. I haven't and may never do so. I can recommend Little Wars TV (US wargamers) who I think are the best in show, together with Martin Kovac's 'Nigh Shift' (modelling) TIK (deep diving military history) and for content and effort,'Napoleonic Wargaming'. Perhaps I should review them on my blog. |

Nice to hear about Little Wars TV, but I was actually asking about opinions on Lard TV and their battleground visit. Have you guys seen that? |

Yes and when they finally get to the on-site content it is very good and well presented. They wrap what is a solid walk-through battle report in a popular format used by a lot of documentary makers and they clearly like Top Gear. Personally, I find myself skipping ahead with this style of delivery. I'm currently isolated on an overseas posting so this new product is wonderful at keeping me connected to my hobby. More please – they will only get better. |

I've really been enjoying their broadcasts. Not just the Best challenge, but the other episodes too. The blacksmith build, Dave Brown playing General de Armee, and especially Rich and Nick playing their blitzkreig era Gembleu Gap campaign. I hope they keep them coming. |
