I got some cork floor tile samples. They are lot thicker than MDF bases about 3/8 of an inch. So what can I do with them? bases for buildings? Hills? Crumble them up and turn into rocks?

What is the preparation best practise with these? Seal with PVA or other? use the cork side up or the 'floor' side up?

See Matakishi's Tea House web site. He makes all sorts of buildings using cork floor tile.

I've used them in the past to form hills in 1/285th
and 1/300

I use them for basing my HOTT/DBA armies and as terrain tiles. They also have a pleasing thickness for making houses and other buildings. All in all very versatile.

Same as Ed, I use them to make hills, etc for 1/600 scale ACW naval

I use cork coasters as village templates for King of the Battlefield Eighteenth Century rules.

I have cut up larger cork mats as bases for towns as per the maps in historical engagements. Buildings are placed on top and easily moved as troops pass through. The buildings I use are normally 6mm which works well with my collections of 15mm figures.

Have fun.

I use them as the base for my Hirst Arts mold cast dungeon pieces. They have good cushion to protect the bottom of the pieces since they're cast with a gypsum cement.

Where did you get them? In my experience they're pretty tough to come by and expensive here in the States, as opposed to the UK.

After seeing Matakishi's site years ago, I wanted very much to make some buildings but I found cork floor tiles difficult to locate and cost-prohibitive, often requiring a minimum order far beyond what I would need.
