With an order of Aventine Successor pikemen on the way I thought I would play around with few colour combinations to see what might best suit the figures

The earth colours and light blues look good to my eye

thoughts ???

They all look good to me, so the choice would depend on the shield pattern. I like your approach.

I don't think there was much in the way of a uniform color per unit, so you could theoretically use all of them at the same time in one unit! I know that gamers like to have units of all one color (it does help in game terms), but in reality I think the color palette was all over the place.

If you wish Epirote- then in a couple of weeks there is a new Osprey coming out. I'm sure the Peter Dennis artwork will not disappoint.

All of them. Shadoe01 +1

Slightly revised, with a somewhat more attractive selection of shield patterns

JJA – I'll keep my eyes open for book – thanks for the heads up.

Oh jeez, you do make it difficult. No mixing uniforms in a unit? Cuz if you do you can have them all.

Ok, keeping in mind I might choose different ones tomorrow…

Top row from the left 1, 2, 4, 6
Bottom row from the left 1, 3, 4

So that's 7 pike units you'll need to do.

Am going with this theme for the first unit (blues, brown and beige), but I can see me doing more in other schemes.

All of these look really nice.

The idea of using digital fill in a line drawing is a very good one!

Red, blues, greens and light variations with contrasting lighter colours, creams whites etc

Cheers
