Been away from the hobby too long. An extended mental health break perhaps. Or breakdown. Not sure which.

Anyway – spent a weekend at a wargaming con a few weeks back and played five games of Black Powder in a small mini-comp. Anyway, have dusted off the paints and undercoated a new battalion of Spanish recently purchased from Elite Miniatures Australia and away we go.

Looking forward to seeing more of you chaps once again. Been a long time.

Cheers
Brian

Welcome back – a change is as good as a rest, so hopefully you have recharged your batteries. Although, TBH, I find it is losing myself in my hobby that lets me escape the rest of the world…

I am so sympathetic with you as I have myself had Psychological problems in the past.

I have been in this situation myself, I shall not go into details but walked a long road in similar boots as yours. About 3? Years ago I went to a historicon, I had my service dog with me, a red golden retriever, but clearly I was not really ready for the crowds. I had just retired and finished my third deployment. I felt inadequate and damaged, like something is dreadfully wrong. I've moved to the gulf coast, I travel some now, (we have 8 grandchildren) and I'm now building Punic war with sword and spear, the SYW Prussian/Austrian with Maurice, and my first love- Russian/ French 1807 with Shako first edition. I get great joy and peace with my 15mil glossy toy soldiers, my dogs, my family and my baking. Don't ever blame yourself and never allow anyone to tell you, you're doing it wrong, what ever it may be!
- oh, and by all means, read Tolstoy's War &Peace before you go to heaven. It's fabulous. Leo is actually what started it all for me in 1974, when I was 15.

Thanks for the encouragements lads. Going to Call to Arms and reconnecting with a bunch of people was a good move. See you soon when I get my first unit finished!
