A quick question about the appearance of the English regiments at Dunbsr. Is it known if these were all attired in the "New Model Army" fashion or was there any variation in appearance between regiments. Thank you. |

My understanding is that all of the English regiments at Dunbar were regular army units (as opposed to Militia etc.) and is I think we can be pretty certain the foot had been issued with red coats at some point. Worth noting they'd had a pretty hard campaign and so may not have looked very pretty by Dunbar. Interestingly there is a new book on Dunbar coming out from Helion next month. If you're interested in the battle perhaps one to put on the wish list. I'm not a Cromwell fan boy by any means but I think Dunbar is by far his greatest victory. Possibly down to plans from his subordinates (Lambert/Monck) but the English were outnumbered and should have been in a bad position. Fascinating campaign, and a great climatic battle at the end of it. |

As above, and if anyone knows the facing/turnback colours that'd be great! |

Thank you Charge! I've added 2 links to the book below: ESSENTIAL AGONY'. THE BATTLE OF DUNBAR 1650 link link I'm not a particular Cromwell fan either but I do enjoy painting loads of Grey Scots and I thought this would be a good battle to introduce the nephews to the P&S period of gaming. |
