Hello everyone: I am in the process of producing a magazine devoted to Warfare from 1500's to 1600's. I am not limiting the magazine to Europe but to include, the Middle East, Africa, India, Japan, South and Central America and America. I am certainly new to this and I am learning as I go. One thing that is slowing me up is contributing authors. If anyone has an article in mind that they would like to write or they know someone that would please contact me. This period is fascinating and it deserves a magazine to bring its history to the public. |

Sounds great. Do you have a title for it yet? Will it be hard copy or online only? Will it be published quarterly or more or less often? Lastly, do you have a subscription price yet? Good luck with the magazine. |

I wonder if Medieval & Ancient Warfare magazine/Karwansaray Editor doesn't want to launch one because last time I asked he gave me a curious reply… |

What sort of articles are you looking for Irish? |

Thanks for the questions everyone. The title will be Renaissance Warfare, unless someone else grabs it first. I will do both hard copy and digital but again I'm learning as I go. I am trying to do three Magazines a year, that way I can make sure each magazine is worth the money people will be paying for it. I want nice articles on Battles, commanders, and weapons, five to ten pages with diagrams, color plates or photos. |

I understand that you need to cover places other than Europe to maximise the number of potential sales, but I suggest that you try and have a range of topics in each issue. I am really only interested in European warfare in that period, so issues focused solely on non-European topics would be a turn off for me. I assume that there are plenty of folk out there whose interests in the period would be the opposite of mine. I very rarely buy the existing wargames magazines because most of the articles are crap. Can I suggest that you avoid the shallow introduction to a period articles, self-indulgent AARs and the like that fill those magazines. If you want quality 5-10 page articles, then I assume that you will need to pay appropriately. |

Irish- You might want to post on the RenWars yahoo group as well: link While the group is not terribly active, there are quite a few members with an interest in Renaissance Warfare. Rich Knapton (who unfortunately passed away a few years ago) used to publish a quarterly magazine covering the period. I wrote a couple of rules reviews for him over the years. Some others there may have information that'd be useful to you in your quest to publish a renaissance magazine. Good luck. John |
