Dear all, I finally took the plunge and bought some Greeks and Turks fromTiger, witht the ideas of expanding them and also go with Bulgarians etc. I was thinking either pure skirmish (i.e. figures moving individually) with Fivecore, or more squad-oriented gaming such as Mud & Blood for TFL. This would really be my first choice, but doesn't sound too good if the squads you need to manouver with are 15 rifle-armed guys only, no specialists, no fireteams etc..). Can anybody points me toward a good source for Balkan wars armies platoon and squad level tactics, so I can assess which way to go? Which approach sounds more interesting and doable? Thanks and best valerio |

The Balkan Wars is not going to give you what you want then. The Serb's had one machine gun per battalion, while other nationalities had somewhere between a MG platoon or company at the battalion level. I think the Balkan region offers a lot of skirmish opportunities but, at the scale you are pondering, it is a rifleman's war. |

I doubt if squad tactics existed at this time. I would think the smallest units would be platoons/companies. |

TMP link to Bloody Big Balkans Battles: TMP link As the name suggest the Balkans Wars (1912-13) was not a skirmish arena, it was a time for ponderous moving armies with rifles, breech loading artillery and very hard terrain. But still a very good period to play, good luck and enjoy the period. |
