I want to paint these in an interesting fashion. I think they should have a paint scheme more like a piece of period construction or other heavy equipment not a military one. Any color anyone particularly likes? If it was today I'd probably paint them up in yellow

Well, you could look up the liveries of the old British railroads. I'm sure the Great Western--Brunswick green with orange and black trim--could have used a tunneler, and the Caledonian Railway--dark maroon and white--even more so.

120 British railroads prior to 1921. Knock yourself out.
