I'm trying to suss out the organization for this formation around 1984, specifically in the DIVCAV squadron for a heavy division. Applicable field manuals are either from 1960 or after the transition to the Abrams/CFV TO&E.

Everything I've found points to one M113 for the platoon HQ, between two and four M113s with scout teams and sometimes a pair of M150s or M901 ITVs, and a tank platoon of four M60s. Can anyone with firsthand experience speak to the accuracy of this? Additionally, how were the scout teams organized as far as manpower, equipment, and armament?

Page 3-12 of FM 17-95 dated 1981 has a cavalry platoon of one HQ M-113, a scout section of two squads of one M-113 and one M-150 or M-901 TOW vehicle each, and a tank section with four M-60A1 tanks. Each scout squad has 5 dismounts between the two vehicles. The scout M-113 carried a Dragon AT missile mount in addition to the .50c machine-gun. Total of three M-113, two TOW vehicles and 4 tanks in a platoon. A troop is three platoons plus a three M-106 mortar section plus a ground surveillance radar section plus the troop HQ. The suggested employment is two elements of one scout squad and two tanks each to give bounding over-watch.

Thank you! I somehow didn't manage to find that particular version of FM 17-95. That is exactly the information I needed.
