I was wondering if there was any interest by the game's designers to have a Kickstarter for Clash of Spears?

(thought I would start a new thread instead of trying to tack this question onto an existing thread)

We considered the option but ended up with the idea of not doing the kickstarter…

We've done all the writing and playtesting already. We can fund the initial print ourselves. We are not launching a line of miniatures. All this means we would not need to do it at this point.

Kickstarters certainly help promote a launch, we've taken the approach of slowly doing that work ourselves, we'll see at the launch if it was enough.

We will very likely do a pre-launch where people can get better deals by pre-ordering.

Also since we started we've been approached with the opportunities of some partnerships that will be outlined once finalized which will make it an even more interesting project.

For all these reasons we decided NOT to go kickstarter and just go out and do it.. wish us luck :)

Tell me about the game. Where to sign up for prelaunch info? Thanks.

Thanks for the info SeldonH.

I have another question. Does basing matter for the game? A lot of my figures are on 25mm rounds.

seldonH05 Aug 2019 6:57 a.m. PST

I can answer any questions you have but there is a lot already in these links

wargames illustrated did a flipthrough of an early test print here
YouTube link ( note though that rules are not igo-ugo, they misunderstood that )

We have paid extra attention in the rules to make them truly base agnostic so that people can use what they want, squares, rounds , rectangular cav, circular cav bases … whatever.. and it has been done carefully to eliminate these effects… our playtesters around the world ( US UK Spain Poland Australia Argentina Germany ) have tried all kinds of basing )

prelaunch info will come up in a few months

wmeyrs,

in the end it came true that way.. after the partnership with Victrix it seemed the best way.. but it will be expedited KS shipping in January.. since we have done all the work, we just need the size and the cashflow to push the button :)… we will launch next Wednesday Nov 13th.. Will try to make an official announcement on TMP, once I figure out how :)

so.. you had the gift of foresight … like … Elrond !!

Asteroid X08 Nov 2019 6:42 p.m. PST

Lol, if only I did. Mind you, we can't talk politics or religion on here so best stay away from any foresight I may actually have.

I got an email from Victrix today about this.

I'm excited.

Both to be able to see the game and for your obvious labour of love!

From what I've read, do the rules cover the Caesarian or Imperial periods, or is this more focussed earlier?

seldonH12 Nov 2019 10:40 p.m. PST

The lists on this first book cover Rome until just before the Marian reforms…

Cesareans would be on the next expansion, but we will not make people wait, the playtest lists will be available online when the book comes out, the full point system will be out when the book comes out so you can design your own lists for other periods..

And Cesareans are the easiest extrapolation at this level of action as the Marian reforms really changed the army organization and not the troop types dramatically…

I need to do a full announcement on TMP which I'll do this week but I need to open the account and all that and I've been swamped… so if I don't manage to do it tomorrow make sure you stop by the KS anyways not to miss the early owl !

Asteroid X18 Nov 2019 4:29 p.m. PST

Congratulations, by the way! (on how well the kickstarter is going)

seldonH19 Nov 2019 7:08 a.m. PST

Yes, we are very happy…

Response has been awesome…

Last night we reached 45k and unlocked a hidden stretch goal… we added some counters to all books…

But it is looking good.. we just need to keep it up..

Our job is to get the word out there… there are people that still haven't hard about the rules or the Kickstarter, so I posted news here at TMP, hopefully they'll be up soon and paid for a banner ( just need to up the multiplier a bit ).

Alvaro and I will keep going around making noise, that way you guys get some extra freebies but more important a wider reaching gaming community…

seldonH05 Dec 2019 4:31 p.m. PST

Ok… so we are on the final week of the KS…

It has been great, we got orders for over 700 books so that is really cool…

With a bit of luck we'll unlock maybe one or two more options but even as is right now I would say things turned out quite well…

It is a good deal for people that supported us since they are getting great deals on the miniatures and those only getting the book can get some convenient counters and probably a free pdf…

So , if anyone has still not heard about this or forgot.. stop by and have a look, and soon we'll be moving into the next phase.. driving the community and getting people to play and discuss the game…

I think it will be a fun 2020 for us !

cheers and thanks everyone who has supported us in different ways…

cheers

Asteroid X07 Dec 2019 1:37 p.m. PST

It will also be a fun 2020 for all who get to play the game!

Will the rules also be available on Amazon, Book Depository and other online sellers?

What about in local game stores?

seldonH07 Dec 2019 6:00 p.m. PST

They will be available from retailers, in fact we already have a few retail pledges and we also have retail distribution paths for EU and US.

Not sure about amazon, game store tend not to carry books if amazon carries them and we want to support local game stores so that people have a place to get together and play.

We will sell directly through our website and continue to distribute from locations in EU and US…
