I stumbled across this remarkable article while--as usual--looking for something else entirely.

I had no idea of the deep miniature wargame roots in France, much less the significance of the French Society For Collectors of Historical Miniatures not only to rules design, but their members' part in Resistance during the Nazi Occupation.

This article hits on so many themes of interest to so many wargamers, I can't imagine anyone starting it and moving on.

For example, who knew it was French gamers who introduced the hexagon to rules?

Please, get a cup of something good to drink as you read this and have your mind expanded.

No hyperbole--just fact!

Please accept my apologies for posting this link, and not for any failure with it or the article, but I only just now discovered it was previously posted to TMP last year.

If you read it then, carry on, but if not, this is unique contribution.

By sheer coincidence I'd come across this article today as well. Brilliant stuff!
