I'm getting a few of the Titan comic hardbacks from 2004-9 or so, and hoping they will be positive reading for my son, as well as some fun for me. I heard they had snappy dialogue and good long-term plots.

Was thinking about using them as a gaming setting, sort of a combo of WWII sci-fi, pulp, perhaps weird war 2.

This raises the question of forums – where do people post on Dan Dare? Both zones?

Anyone have thoughts on 28mm figs, rules, other media that is inspirational, etc. I got the idea from John Lambshead and his blog / rules, and I think it will be fun.

Thanks for any guidance!

It is either pulp science fiction, or science fiction pulp.

This is a good example of why crossposting is allowed.

Yep, I agree, both.

Hmmm, never heard of Dan.

Don't know what he and others look like, so am no help there.

The fairly simple, easily tweaked, Galactic Heroes rules might be a decent option for this, as far as rules go. Haven't played any games with them yet, but they look to be good fun for simple, beer and pretzels style scenarios. They're not overly complicated, so you could play a few "scenes" or scenarios in a campaign, in an afternoon, I suspect.

Gonna give them a try myself, hopefully soon.

Pulp seems a bit harsh for Dan Dare but it does appear to be the only option. Titan published 4 new Dan Dare comics in early 2018 – did you see those? And spaceshipaway.org publish quarterly Dan Dare comics and the back issues are often on eBay

Never heard of him, Thresher01!! Have a look here dandare.org/.

Try 7TV Pull for rules.

That should read 7TV Pulp.

Fistful of Lead Galactic Heroes and the Core Rules from Wiley Games would cover everything. Easily adaptable to any setting.

If you want Dan in both his uniform and his spacesuit, the 28mm Retro Space Pilot from Miniature Figurines was inspired by him.

I know that the Dick Garrison range from Wargames Supply Dump had not-Treens, but unfortunately these are no longer available, as WSD is sadly no longer trading. However, you might be able to find some on eBay.

Well im couple years late to the convention!
Dan has always been a man of our time.
Originally crated in the 50's for the eagle comic.the titan books reprint his adventure's from stuff printed 50's and when you think of Dan its from this era!
By the early 60's and with a change of artist and a directive from the editor Dan was totally revamped and he and his world would be totally unrecognized by a 50s reader after the egale folded
He poped up in 2000ad and was
Drawn by wachmen's Dave gibbons as well as others. He was the comics most popular character till he was toppled by Jonny come lately
Judge Dredd.
By the mid 80s the egale comic was dusted off and printed again with Dan being the only character to survive the relaunch.
He made turned up in 90's Pete Milligan's (fury road) short lived revolver magazine
In which for the first time in decades he looked like his 50s self and again in the 2018 written by Garth Ennis
Always changing and always evolving I wouldn't call him pulp or retro I'd call him a comic book character.
