I was browsing for Viking figures to fill out an old Viking DBA army I dug out from storage recently. I was looking at the Viking Forge line, and the poses all exactly match the one on the Viking army i already had, which was by Minifigs. Nothing wrong with that! At least all the figures would match, and maybe VF is using better alloy today, since these guys go back to the 90s.

Does anyone know?

Viking Forges is the old Asgard lines.

I don't have my Minifig Vikings handy for comparisons, but a lot of the miniatures sculpted back in the day were based on the illustrations in the various WRG Armies and Enemies books and the poses from the illustrations were often matched in the sculpts leading to a lot of fraternal twins from the various manufacturers.

The Viking Forge website states that the castings are now in pewter so that should take care of any alloy problems (I know, I have some of the old Asgard figures that are in pretty bad shape – lead rot).

Thanks goragrad! You are correct.

We purchased the Asgard 15mm ancients range from Essex in 1986. We later partnered with Partizan Press to add many new figures to the range.

Many of the original Asgard ancients were sculpted by the same man who did many of the Minifigs 2nd generation ancients, so that may be why the Asgard and Minifigs look so similar.

We have been using lead-free pewter for years.

Cheers,
