Before I start from scratch has anyone tried to modify the Blucher rules for the Franco Prussian war of 1870? |

Nope. Quite happy with the Neil Thomas "Nineteenth century Europe Rules". |

So why would I modify Sam Mustafa rules for the Napoleonic period (or indeed any period) when I can get Bruce Weigle's 1871? |

…why would I modify Sam Mustafa rules for the Napoleonic period Because the original poster may actually enjoy them? Finds them more interesting to play? Why is it that when answering a specific question about a rules set, others chime in with non-responsive answers about other rules sets? |

There is an ACW variant of Blucher. Haven't seen one for FPW. |

Why is it that when answering a specific question about a rules set, others chime in with non-responsive answers about other rules sets? Because it's TMP! |

Fire power will be the greatest difference at this level of gaming. The 'Blucher' basing system will probably be very similar to that used in Napoleonic times … would this variant become called 'Moltke'? I use Chris Pringle's Bloody Big Battle rules and the biggest differences between Napoleonic and FPW are the weapons and the tactics needed to counteract them. The Age of the Rifle, Breech loading steel artillery and French Machine Guns made the battlefield very dangerous meaning frontal assaults have lots of casualties. Interestingly the size of battles also seem to have increased in this period, including the 1859 and 1866 Campaigns leading up to the FPW. |
