Here's one of my Cataphract Heavy Grav Tanks. I have modified it by adding a secondary turret with a light laser cannon and a big hull gun from Shapeways between the sponsons:

Very nice. It is amazing how well these minis look even when the pictures are enlarged. It could easily be 15 mm by the pictures.

What rules are you using?

Stephen, I currently use LaserStorm, but have recently purchased Strike Legion. I also played a lot of Dirtside a few years ago.

I don't have laser storm but a few of Nordic Weasel's other games, especially 5 core company command. Comes close but doesn't quite scratch that itch. Have to revisit it as my opinions have been changed recently. I have Strike Legion and was put off on page (early) when the squad(?) or platoon leader had to be within 1" of the squad(s) under their command. Never went further. I have Dirt side, and had for a while, but something kept me from pursuing it. Again one to look over again.

Lately I have been playing, and modifying, Hind & Seek which is a Soviet Afghan war set of rules which if it goes the way I hope it might bear transferring between genres.

Thank you.

Yeah, this a BIG piece of 6mm lead. All that size and only armed with pop gun in a turret next to a missile launcher turret, both mounted on another turret…two turrets mounted on another turret (that ought to work swell!). So I had to add a gun from Shapeways and a secondary turret. It looks cool in a outer space kind of way, so what the heck!

Well read through Dirtside II which I have had for the past 25+ years. Now I recall why I wasn't that keen on it back then. Yes the leader had to be, in my mind, too close but given the ground scale not bad. What I am not a fan of is the overly generic weapons. Yes the combo for vehicles allows for a larger potential mix but there are no differences between many weapons, especially infantry weapons. I do like the activation by platoon (or equivalent) concept though.

I will go past the unrealistic command and control requirements of Strike Legion and see how the rest feels.

My background was Striker back then. The vast designs of everything, the wide array of infantry and other weapons, and the very good feeling command and control rules were the final word as far as I was concerned. Looking at it now there are so many holes, and plain wrong weapons it doesn't hold me like it once did. I have tried cleaning it up, updating it and using it as the basis for something new but between the issues I am seeing, the fact I might be willing to slightly modify but not write a new game and my interest in finding a set of rules I can live with "out of the box" has kept me looking for a closer holy grail.
