Can anyone recommend any (non-fiction) books on Ireland in the Viking Age? Especially any which cover indiginous Irish culture/history as well as the Norse settlers themselves.

Also, living in Wales, I'll probably be heading over to the Emerald Isle later in the year so any recommendations of pertinent sites to visit also gratefully received!

Can't recommend any books but a place to visit to see Viking and medieval Dublin would be Dublinia

Sean Duffy's book on Brian Boru and the battle of Clontarf is essential reading. Sets the scene on viking Ireland very well. Conor's Kostick's book Strongbow brings things nicely into the Anglo Norman age. Waterford city is also worth visiting. Lots of Viking heritage and interactive museums there. The national museum in Dublin (Kildare Street) also has a wealth of artefacts from Viking Dublin.

Thanks, chaps, I've been to the National Museum and Dublinia on a previous visit, both are indeed excellent (but pale in comparison to the National Leprechaun Museum!)

That is because leprechauns are real and Vikings are only make believe.

"… but pale in comparison to the National Leprechaun Museum!"
I am sometimes ashamed of how we easily extract money from tourists ;-)

The leprechaun museum is properly folkloric, and they publish a great countercultural paper called An Adharc. There's nary a ginger bearded, green waistcoat wearing midget to be seen!

I found today this, published by Dublinia, which has some good reviews, a copy currently on its way to me link
