Are any of Warlords English Civil War boxed sets suitable to use as Early and Middle 30 Years War Imperial Germans (clothing, armor, hats, cavalry, etc…)? Cheers. link |

They do a specific 'Imperialist' infantry set though I don't know if it is the same sprues from the ECW set with more morions. It has been a while since I read this stuff but IIRC: -the trousers tended to be baggier earlier on. -I also have an idea that hats tended to have broader brims and were often folded up. Worth looking at Khurasan's description of their 15mm range link to see some distinctive TYW Imperial features and compare them to the 28mm ECW figures. |

Thanks Swampster. I have the "Imperials" box on order but I was hoping to add to the available poses by mixing in some of the Brits if they fit in. Maybe just the officers could mix for varied command stands.

The sets are the same basic plastic kits. I think the swedish infantry set comes with some extra metal bits (morions, perhaps). |

I'm not expert on either the TYW or Warlord's ECW plastic box sets (which I've never seen 'in the flesh'). From what I have seen, however, I think that the Warlord sets are not ideal for German units of the early TYW. Then, more pikemen would have worn armour (including tassets), musketeers would have carried rests and more musketeers would have worn helmets. Cavalry would have been cuirassiers or arquebusiers – both of which Warlord produces in the form of sets of metal riders on plastic horses. |

Hi Uesugi. The Imperial Box set is the standard ECW box set with the addition of a rather nice metal command group. (The Swedish box set is similar,. although I think metal command group in this box set is my favourite of all Warlord's command groups!) The plastic infantry sprue includes armoured and unarmoured pike. They also include musket rests should you wish to add these to your figures. Warlord also do packs of helmets and soft hats should you wish to expand the choices you get in the plastic box set. My advice is to mix figures from several boxes to form units as you want them. I have used Warlord plastics for my 1632 Imperial foot. I have also added in other manufacturers figures to the same units, as well as Warlord's own metal packs. These have included Foundry, Perry and TAG. As to trouser baggy-ness, well they look ok to me :-) |
