…to Finish His Books Now That Game of Thrones Is Over.

"With Game of Thrones now over, fans of the world George R.R. Martin created can turn their attention to the yet-to-be-published final two books in the series. Not that fans haven't been doing that for a while now, of course…but it should come as no surprise that the author isn't planning on speeding up his pace.

Martin's fourth book in the series, A Dance With Dragons, came out eight years ago this month, right around the time the hit HBO show debuted. And while the author says there was pressure in the middle there to finish the books as the series started to catch up, that has diminished now that the show is over…."

Cut back his feed. Then point him to the free buffet for when he finishes the book. That will git it done.

I gaveup on him. So yeah no pressure, because he is just another hack like Robert Jordon(if a bit more talented) so I won't buy any more from him.

Robert Jordon? Who died while making sure that he'd left outline, several million words of notes and such, to make sure his series would be finished.

Lost me with the comparison.

I'm still convinced he will release "Winds of Winter" as Part I of VII …

One of these trips to Hyde Brothers Used and Rare, my Game of Thrones volumes will go. There are already too many incomplete series on my shelves.

Martin is a man of immense talent, and that's what causes the frustration. It's not as though I'm in mourning because John Jakes never wrote a conclusion to his "Brak the Barbarian" books. But it is our fault as a society--not as individuals, you understand--that being a Celebrity is more rewarding for the work involved than being a great artist.

I check two or three news aggregators every morning. Hardly a day goes by that there isn't a headline announcing "Starlet Parades Around Naked" "People You Never Heard of are Having Sex" or "Ignorant (But Famous) Person Expresses Opinion." When's the last time the headline was "Someone Writes Great Book"? Once you cross the threshold into being a "Celebrity" you get praise and attention of traveling, meeting people, giving interviews and expressing opinions--all of which are a lot less trouble and more fun than creating good art.

We're getting what we deserve. Turns out the great prophetic writer of the 20th Century wasn't Orwell or Huxley, but C.M. Kornbluth--and I'll buy that for a quarter.

Always amused how a "celebrity" is show cased in the news and I'm not aware of who they are or why/what made them a celebrity/famous in the first place.

There are good/great authors, just as there are good/great artist in all fields, driven to create their passion, its just difficult to filter out the drivel.

"Immense talent"? Really? I am afraid I don't agree.

Yes he has immense talent – that's the problem or we would hardly care. But for now all we can do is vent frustration and wait. Not fun. He's churned out lots of pages of Westeros material – some of it quite good but not story we wanted to hear.

We just have to amuse ourselves with reading something else (though nothing seems quite as good) or in may case running battles and campaigns in Westeros putting the winner on the Iron Throne – I suppose once we know who it will be this will all become official alternate history.
