Hi, folks. After years of interest in the period I've decided to start collecting a 15mm Napoleonic army. I've chosen to go with the Bavarians due to my own family history as well as their snappy uniforms and versatility (either allies or enemies to the French, depending on year).

Regarding sources, I have Gill's excellent book. But is there another source you all would recommend for information on uniforms? I'm also interested in any changes in organization for the 1812 campaign. Thanks!

I would recommend 'The Bavarian Army 1806 – 1813' by Gartner and Stein with illustrations by Peter Bunde. A great book which will answer all your questions and has great uniform plates. (Amazon has it.)

If you have the Gill book then you will know how the Bavarians were organised in 1809. By 1812, basically the Dragoons had become Chevauxlegers and the infantry were organised along French lines with six companies in a battalion (one x grenadiers, four x musketeers and one x Schutzen/skirmishers.

Hope that is a helpful start.

That's very helpful -- thanks to you both.

And of the figure ranges I have used I can recommend the best Bavarian figures are by AB with Old Glory an acceptable alternative if finances are key. AB are worth the extra premium in my opinion as they are so good they are often mistaken for 28 mm figures in photos.

I was thinking of going with Blue Moon for the majority of the figures, but AB does have a bigger range of poses. Do AB figures mix well with Blue Moon?

I've also found the History Book Man's series of books great. I haven't bought the Bavarian one yet, but for £5.00 GBP a pop I think they are about the best value for money if you're looking for Napoleonic reference books. They are usually very comprehensive.

If you can afford it, I would stick with AB figures which are the best 15mm figures in my opinion. However, I have mixed Blue Moon with AB quite successfully. They can share a table but I would not be too sure about sharing a unit.

Cant't speak for Bavarians but I have numerous Austrian regiments of Lancashire games infantry led by AB command groups similarly I have Old Glory or Lancs cavalry with AB command. They all ix in well enough.

Ditto on The History Bookman title – two volumes, over 300 pages for five quid

AB and Blue Moon mix well on the same table, but are sculpted with a different style. I usually do not mix different manufacturers in the same unit anyway, so for me they look great in side by side units.

History Book Man, brilliant value.

I have the entire Bavarian army of 1809 and all are AB figures.
