I'm looking for images of state flags during the Civil War. jpg, bmp or other image files I can copy into a Word or Excel sheet. I have ones for states which used the same flag during ACW as now, so only looking for those that were different in ACW. |

You can try this, it has some of what you are looking for. One problem is that some states did not have official flags at the time, so there is a lot of variance. loeser.us/flags/civil.html |

Well State flags are on the net or books but people do not know how to search for them. Osprey book on flags can be found . In fact I have four in my store. In regards to Alabama and Florida, they both used Bonnie Blue flags BUT with yellow and not white stars. Alabama also had Alabama spelled out around the flag. The Alabama government flag had a cotton plant withrattler on one side and a lady liberty holding a battle flag on the other. By the way they had an Irish unit from Montgomery carrying a unit flag with a gold harp on green field on one side and on the other a whie field with a Geo Washington standing in it. |

Be careful. Some of "the same flag" aren't really. Virginia used a slightly different design of its seal in 1861 than it uses today. North Carolina's follows the same general design but many of the details have been altered. |

Most, but I believe not all Pa units didn't carry a "State" flag. Instead, The national flag had a Pa crest in the blue field. |
