The FPW is not as one sided as we might think: link

Love BBB. 1866 is also not as one sided as the Prussian historians would have us believe. History is often written by the victors.

I have gamed and read a lot about 1866. The possibilities in that war are not as lopsided. But frankly, the Austrians were shot down in a very lopsided fashion. Their saving grace was poor Prussian artillery doctrine and the Prussian Army not being the finely honed machine it was in 1870.

The 1866 Austrians were in a good place with their troops but in a bad place with their Commanders in Bohemia. The Custozza Campaign in Northern Italy showed how a smaller force well led could win. Likewise for the FPW, given good leadership all was possible, with a little luck of course.

Not an 'army of pigs' then?

(No offence intended to any Croats, Slovaks, Sub-Carpathian Ruthenians, etc. Or pigs.)
