guys can anyone tell me what command level were tank transporters assigned ?

Tgunner14 Jul 2019 12:24 p.m. PST

I'm not sure that they exist at any command level. When I was in the Gulf during Desert Storm our tracks were carried on civilian low boys from the ports to our drop off points. Then the tracks carried themselves to the assembly areas.

I imagine probably at Corps level, or higher.

Doubt they'd be at Divisional level, but suspect I could be wrong about that.

They were a Corps asset, but, the Army has really monkeyed around with the MTOE's. I think each Corps was support to have two companies of transporters.

Generally they'd be from Corps assets from a separate Heavy Transport Bns.

The Army had HETs, Heavy Equipment Transports. Basically 18 wheeler flat beds. Similar to commercial Vehicles.

Don't think you'd find Sep Hvy Trans Bns at Div. But the TO&Es have changed, as MAJ Mike said.

During the day, Cold War, corps had transporters…HETs.

Yes that was my experience. And we used them at times.
