History is central to my hobby – it has been said that it's all I talk about (not entirely true but…) I have never stopped studying history – I urge the 11% to do the same… |

Green Tiger Why must you assume that those of us who didn't take formal courses in history are necessarily less interested or even less knowledgeable ? When I went to university history of conflict was a very rare option on degree courses and in the UK you didn't go through the minors and majors methodology that you do in the States. I've been reading history of one sort or another since I was 11 but it has always been my hobby, not a profession. |

Everyone I've ever known has had at least one history course mandatory for a 4 year degree. I took two, I would have take more if I had more electives I could have filled with history classes. |

History was my minor but I actually have more hours in it than my major. |

After struggling through history in high school the bug bit me in college and I took a number of history courses, even an entire full year 3 course seminar on the history of science and technology. Getting more history studies in now as a wargamer than some recent history grads. |

My history advisor remarked that it was the best major, because no matter what you did in life, you could always pick up a history book and understand it. You didn't have to keep up with changing jargons and paradigms. The extension of that comment is that no matter what you studied, you could always pick up a history book and understand it. And beyond that, you don't need any specialized skills to write a history book, although you do need deep knowledge of your subject and its milieu, and you need to learn how to do the relevant research. |

I majored in Grave Irony with a minor in Incongruity. I hated history and thought computers were boring and pointless, so deliberately avoided either topic in college. Then I launched a tech career in Silicon Valley and began reading history books for fun. |

A degree in history, and military science. Plus later graduate working in history for teaching. |

Technically I took a course in German history at uni. But I'd describe myself as largely self-taught with regard to history – throughout elementary and high school history classes we were mostly studying stuff I'd already read about in greater depth at home, and that uni course was little different. |

I should think that most, if not all, historical gamers would have a deep serious interest in history although some may be more focused than others on the military side of it. |

I have never stopped studying history – I urge the 11% to do the same… That's a bit presumptuous, isn't it? My history advisor remarked that it was the best major, because no matter what you did in life, you could always pick up a history book and understand it. I never took history as a major. What a shock to know that I never really understood any of the 100's of history books I've read. |

During college I took a lot of history classes. My prof told me I was only two classes away from my history minor. Since I was finishing my BS in computer science, pre-internet days, I was ready to get out of school. If I known earlier I might have done something g to get the minor. |

Most colleges today want to re-write history or explain it thru today's political lenses. |
