The "Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game" is pretty much the same as the old rules. The main mechanics and game engine work the same. They really just cleaned up and consolidated the three books from the old boxed sets in to one complete rule set. I have an extra copy, plus a LoTR army book, I'd be happy to sell. $100 USD for both, free shipping in the US. PM me here or mark@scalecreep.com |

As said above, at it's core it's very much the same, but updated and streamlined. I think the biggest changes were to the magic powers, and toned them down a bit. I love the game. There are some podcasts and vids on youtube that go through all the differences in detail. EC is offering a great deal, if I already didn't have the books I would take him up on his offer. _stew |

Thanks for the info! I'm in Canada so with shipping it will probably be more than I can get them for from GW. Are the army/character info from the older books still valid? (I have some of the older books.) |

yes and no. You certainly could use the old books but the new army book has some updated profiles and special rules (like each faction gets a special army bonus). And of course GW said that they balanced all the profiles… |
