Hi all, I've recently picked up some Warlord Games plastic Japanese, which I'll be using to play Chain of Command, however I'm unsure how best to base them for the Pacific theatre. Can you guys recommend any quick tips on what's going to help them look the part, but without just being sand.

Thanks in advance.
Tom

Where do you intend to fight?
The CBI and the Kokoda Track are jungle, as are most South Pacific islands (i.e. not atolls).
There is also Kunai Grass link and a lot of grassy areas on some of the islands.
Open the Goggle Earth app and ignore all the pretty pictures of water falls and tourist spots to look for native housing and ground level photos.

"The CBI and the Kokoda Track are jungle" – bearing in mind of course that the plains of central Burma are arid and desert-like…

I did a little foam grass and some "summer tufts" grass on my bases. I use my figures for New Guinea, but I think they would work on most islands.

Maha, you are right. I was thinking of the route down to Singapore but most of Burma is brown not green. That's why I like to check a satellite view of where these campaigns happen. Just remember to allow that a lot of urban has blighted most places.

I face this same issue. It depends on what geographic area you want to have your battles as there is quite a bit of variability to cover the expansive areas invaded by the Japanese. Guadalcanal would be different than Betio thet was mostly sand. Even the sand was different colored on the various islands. Iwo Jima was a dark grayish black volcanic ash. Unless you are going to have forces based for the different areas that may be impractical, it comes to some compromises that allows a "fit for multiple areas". Some neutral ground that allows a fit for all is probably best.
