Looking suitable Vallejo (preferably) colours for VDV airborne in Afghanistan. They appear to have a green uniform with tan sun bunny blotches? These will make a nice contrast with the brown of the ordinary infantry. Any suggestions for the tunic, equipment and blue beret would be appreciated. |

In different periods of time and in different terrains – various models of uniforms were used. The use of blue berets in a combat situation was quickly abandoned. The uniform was the same for all troops. The main difference of the paratrooper is the striped undershirt.

Reconstruction of the uniform of Soviet paratroopers in Afghanistan. The link mass photos of these items that were used there. The text, alas, only in Russian: vichivisam.ru/?p=12257&_utl_t=lj

My attempt at some VDV (still have to finish my full platoon with BMDs), redeployed from Afghanistan for the defence of Cuba in '88. Elhiem 20mm. I used Tamiya XF-26 deep green and XF-19 sky gray for the jump suits. There should be tables around to convert these into Valejo colours.
and a 1/6 impression I like of VDV in Astan:

Many thanks. My VDV figures come with berets, so blue it is. |

These are paratroopers in Afghanistan. Obviously – not in a combat situation. Some kind of solemn event. Beret soviet paratroopers looks like this:

Some really good shots above. This will help with my own VDV project. Right now I am considering Vallejo Russian Uniform WWII – 70.924 as a base color for the cammie uniform. I'm not entirely happy with it since it appears a little to dark. |

You can not worry too much about the shades. The color of the material is always slightly varied in shades. You can see it in the photo. (Not reconstruction – they use the same subject for a photo). |

I would be less concerned if the paint was a lighter shade and not darker. |

Just add a little light gray or yellow paint. Unfortunately, I do not have Vallejo paint on hand and I can not advise more precisely. |

Try using Vallejo Khaki. You can lighten or darken it as needed, add a touch of green, etc. It's a really good base color. |
