Yes, the "deer caught in headlights" looks extreme in this case. OTOH if the painter had put black frames around the eyes, it would have looked like they were wearing glasses… ;-)

I found I got much better results just painting the flesh, then allowing a 'small' amount of wash to settle in the recess's of the eyes.

Agreed. The vast majority of people can't paint eyes that look anything close to normal, so it is best (for most of us) not to bother.

That's not supposed to be a John Wick but the characters from the tv series 'Supernatural', apparently.

Extreme close up photos often don't do justice to miniatures that are supposed to be viewed at 2 to 3 feet distance.

These are painted – not just collecting dust in a zip lock bag in tin-man form.
