A couple of weeks ago I hosted the Battle of Alleghaney Mountain. Follow the link to my flickr page. At the bottom of the description header, click on more to read the details of the scenario.

Great photos.

What rules were you using?

Don't let the folks in Pocahontas County catch you spelling Allegheny with two "a"s!

That's the way the scenario book spelled. I thought it was wrong too. Should have checked.

Sounds like post-war revisionism to me. I checked the Official Records (Series I, Vol. 5, pp. 456-468) and in all 10 reports, both Federal and Confederate, the spelling is "Allegany" with two "a"s.

Well the Mountains can be spelt three ways Allegheny, Alleghany and Allegany, on the face of it is a 2-1 win for the Double A!

Perhaps we should ask this guy? He was there!

Apparently – Allegheny – is the oldest spelling taken from the French version of the Lenape (Delaware) First Nation word for "fine river".

See hang around TMP and you learn stuff!
