Very much so.

A professional, academic, piece of work. I had wondered why it seemed to focus exclusively on desertion whilst in GB or Canada, assuming simply that the documentation was lacking for Spain etc. No, the author tells us that 1810-12 four fifths of all desertions from the British Army were "domestic" basically. A really good bit of social history

I agree, Dr. Linch is a first-class researcher, and more than that, is able to interpret his findings into discernible, useful conclusions, and he then shares them in an organized, lucid manner. I've read a couple of his papers, and he never fails. Dr. Bamford I think was one of his students; a tradition of excellence.
