June 2019 – The NEC, UK Games Expo and one of the bigger UK events I will manage to get to this year. So, why not take an almost legendarily unusable army into a theme where it is certain to meet opponents it struggles to deal with?

Well, if that army is a Samurai force that hasn't seen light of day since it's almost-win in Burton last year, the answer is of course a resounding YES!!!

The end result is five full match reports, packed to the sushi-tasting gills with pictures of Samurai figures far better painted than I could ever hope to manage myself, as well as all of the usual videos, jokes, witty banter (some of it from headless ex-warriors serving as markers), and half-baked tactical theories.

In fact, there's even a herd of cows. What more could anyone want in the height of BBQ season eh?

Read on to find out how the Samurai fared against the Song Chinese, Sicilians, French, Ottomans and a properly colourful Samurai Civil War as well (just one) in these 5 fully ninja-tastic reports.

Damn it Man that was entertaining. Love the dice, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get them?

madaxeman21 Jun 2019 1:10 a.m. PST

It was a recent limited-run promotion – I will need to dig out the name of the company !

Is the fortress wall a terrain feature or just decoration?

madaxeman21 Jun 2019 10:20 p.m. PST

I use it instead of the terrain feature of a Waterway – with no naval units in ADLG a Waterway is just a feature that narrows the board a little so making a wall for the Samurai to stand in as a Waterway became "one of those projects…"

Dice are £3.00 GBP each ! Wowsa !

madaxeman25 Jun 2019 5:30 a.m. PST

Yeah. That's what I thought. But in just 2 events I've already had far too much fun using them that they seem like a steal !

Custom dice can get cheaper if you buy lots of them. My "anything butt" dice were $1 USD each if I bought at least 50, IIRC. Not a problem, since I was buying dice for 40k and needed 48 dice for a single unit of troops.

Mimicry is the highest form of flattery, I went to order the dice, but they were sold out. I'll have to visit the Dice Lady at Historicon next month and see what she has.

Is your actual list published somewhere in the blog? I am considering building a Samuraii army. I already have the cattle!

madaxeman27 Jun 2019 6:22 a.m. PST

The list is cunningly hidden on the "Samurai" page :-)

Although to be fair it was a 225 point event, so you may struggle to recreate it at 200!
