Just put together an early run of the 1/72 scale PSC Tiger I and pretty good it looks.
Couple of ultra fussy bits:
Fit of the gun into the mantlet is tight, peg on the end of the barell needs thinning down a tad.
Tabs on the front peice that fit into the hull top need thining just a touch so you dont have to hold it in place as it wants to be vertical and needs to be ever so slightly sloped back.
Anorak tweaks…………
Opened out muzzle brake, created undercut on shovel, added texture to tow ropes removed for replacement tow hooks on the front. Replaced handle on loaders hatch with wire one.

Compares well in size and mass with the Dragon and Revell ones I have comparison pics to follow.

Looking good! The extra details help. I'm excited to get my hands on these. Does anyone know how this one compares in size to the PSC Panther?

Looks a very nice model although there wasn't a shortage of Tiger 1s for 20mm but some being better than others. Going off looks I would place this in the good category.

Nice, and thanks, does it come with the option of early and late wheels etc?

Gunner Dunbar,
The details will be up on the PSC website including a sprue shot and the instructions.

What's happening here Leon?

'front peice that fit into the hull top need thining just a touch so you dont have to hold it in place as it wants to be vertical and needs to be ever so slightly sloped back'

Didnt hold the front section back long enough so it glued a bit too vertical, therefore left a gap between it and the side panel.Hence the tip above. Had to go in with superglue to correct it.

Pah, nothing was quite like the original Airfix one…not even a real Tiger was quite like the Airfix one. They don't make them like that any more……..

Marc at work15 Jul 2019 5:23 a.m. PST

Now now, the original Airfix wasn't terrible – a turret box would have really helped its overall look

4th Cuirassier15 Jul 2019 9:04 a.m. PST

The Airfix one scales out perfectly to 1/76, but it depicts a late example whose turret box and exhaust sleeves have gone missing. A number of the features it is supposedly missing, such as the outer row of road wheels and the Feifel air filter system, were never actually fitted to late model Tiger Is.

One feature few Tiger minis capture is the mantlet being offset to the left so that the turret is not, as usually depicted, circular.

As an older lol gamer I have to admit from gaming distance as a gaming model I don't see much difference. Sorry!

Marc at work16 Jul 2019 4:21 a.m. PST

Lee +1

But I appreciate some people enjoy the modelling aspect as well. I know my Airfix Tigers served their purpose, current models are ready made/painted examples, and the PSC may well get my money.

Once on the table, the Allied players will see a Tiger – end of :-)

There is some genius ruleset that stipulates that any German AFV on the table is always represented by a model of a Tiger, until the opponent rolls a high enough ID score to identify it accurately as a Luchs, StuG III or whatever.

If one took that to the logical conclusion, you'd need to throw better than 2 to identify it correctly as a Puma but a 6 to identify a Panzer IVH…

Re-furbished turret on the steel-wheel version!

Sorted taking some reasonable pics of the PSC Tiger I

Done for North Africa

and for Normandy. Camo done with water colour pencils in this case.

Been reminded that I intended to write somes notes to go with the pic, apologies only just sorting things from the Devizes show at the weekend so brain not fully functioning………….now now be nice! lol

Sprayed with PSC Dunkel gelb ( any will do), the base yellow then worked a bit, shaded/highlighted using Life colour gelb shades. Tools etc painted. Then sealed with matt varnish. Let well dry. Now you can skip the matt varnish and just draw onto the paint job but this will give you a slightly 'grubbier ' look which is of course what you might want. Ive only skipped the matt varnish on ones Ive worked up the gelb with Humbrols.
With a brush wet an area then draw with the pencil, any art shop artists water colour pencils will do ( Caran d ache etc) the shape you want. Then smooth/fade out the colours with a brush using a cotton buddie ( Tamiya do nice ones for the job, smaller heads and not so 'furry') to remove excess colour. Keep working round till your happy. Let dry for a bit then you can go in again on top of the colours to make them denser if you want/need to.
At any stage you can just use water to remove any colour.
Then sealed with light coat of gloss varnish, decals applied.
Then pin washes around engine gratings of black/dark brown ( The AK ones work well) a few overall washes with DIY oil washes and then some dust washes applied mainly to the unserside/ wheels but a light coating overall.
Everything else, tracks etc as per normal methods.

That was AHGCs 'Pattons Best'. I borrowed the idea, and occasionally to be extra cruel I deploy my fleet of Roco Tiger IIs until the Allies have correctly identified them.

Camo' with watercolour pencils!? Great idea, and very cool! I still have some of those old Caran d'Ache pencils stashed away in a tin somewhere. I think I'll give that method a try. Thanks for sharing that Leon :o)
