The uniforms are more from the War of 1812 than the War of the Revolution.

Can be converted…?

1812 saw such major uniform changes, I doubt it.

Brechtel19813 Jun 2019 2:35 p.m. PST

No. The top hat was definitely a War of 1812 item and this uniform was worn by the Kentucky Mounted Riflemen at the Battle of the Thames.

And the green with yellow trimmed hunting shirt in the background was the uniform of the US Rifle Regiments in the War of 1812.

Wait, if you put Tricornes on these guys, they couldn't be AWI Militia Cavalry?

Brechtel19814 Jun 2019 3:09 a.m. PST

First you would have to figure out what 'Kentucky riflemen' wore in the War of the Revolution.

Virginia Tory14 Jun 2019 7:30 a.m. PST

Good point, since there wasn't really a "Kentucky" yet.

lucky1oldman14 Jun 2019 9:11 a.m. PST

I agree with Mini – you could convert with tricornes & instant generic Southern Militia Cav. – not that much of a stretch really.

Virginia Tory14 Jun 2019 10:26 a.m. PST

Nah, that style of hunting shirt is more 1800s.

Not a huge deal, but I wouldn't do it.

There was a Kentucky in the AWI. It just wasn't an independent state yet. Virginia created the County of Kentucky at the start of the AWI, including roughly the same area that constitutes the Commonwealth of Kentucky today. Before that Kentucky was a geographic area, even though it was not a legal entity.

Also I agree. The figures look more like War of 1812 to me. Still nice.

Virginia Tory16 Jun 2019 6:01 p.m. PST

Right--you said it better re: "geographic area."

Virginia Tory18 Jun 2019 5:56 a.m. PST

That guy without the hat looks like Lenin. Hmmmmm.

Brechtel19818 Jun 2019 7:03 a.m. PST

There is a painting of the Battle of the Thames by Ken Riley that features Johnson's mounted Kentucky Riflemen in the uniform pictured in this thread charging British regulars.
