That is interesting. You might want to check out this article to supplement it. It's about the Sturmgewehr '44s used in the civil war. I guess the Syrians had a taste for German weapons in the '50's.

That should be in a museum ! And based on the Syrian's combat record vs. the IDF. No matter what they used wouldn't have made much of a difference ! evil grin
