link The current version of the Art of War is exhausted as well in French, English and Spanish. The rule dates from 2014 and I think it's time to launch a new version. The objectives of this new version are: - Integrate and consolidate amendments and clarifications from the FAQ - Clarify definitions by adding a lexicon - Make some minor changes to refine the balance of troops - Review and correct the army lists The general idea is to simplify, clarify and correct some points, not to revolutionize everything. In this task, I will rely on the Technical Department: - Patrick Lefebvre will coordinate everything related to the rule itself - Hubert Bretagne will take care of army lists Everyone can give their opinion during a consultation phase that will be limited in time. We will try to finish this new version for the end of the year, knowing that it must be released in French, English and Spanish. If the time is too good, we can review the schedule. Hervé |

"Lexicon" = glossary How about some Shang Dynasty "swordsmen", to represent all of those short dagger-axes…? |

Add a recoil result into the mix. |

I salute the author`s basic approach which is to consult the whole ADLG community in coming up with the next addition of the rules. There is much wisdom to be had. I wish Lorenzo had done the same with Impetus 2. Don`t get me wrong. Impetus 2 is a real advance forward but I think it would have even been better if he had consulted widely as in this case. |

*sigh*. I just – quite literally – bought the rules yesterday. So take your time Hervé! |

Keep that recoil nonsense out of the rules. |

I'll have to keep an eye on this to see when a reprint surfaces so I can grab a copy. Do you have a 'notify by email' anywhere for such updates? Any chance of a PDF version? |

I hope their edition improves as there were parts barely understandable. It would also a good idea not to hire the same people for the translation into Spanish as it was the worst rules translation I've ever seen in my 35 years of gaming! They also neeed to give more support to English and Spanish players desiring to consult doubts about the rules, as well as for extra stuff like campaigns, tourneys, scenarios, etc. |

Sadly I'd wager that no one was "hired" to do the translations – the English version was a few of us helping out a friend at our club with a project he had. We didn't even realise how popular the rules were – never mind guess how popular they would become ! Personally I've found the support on the official forum really good too – maybe the Spanish section is less well populated, but certainly Julian Lopez seems to play a very active role in communicating rules queries and the like |

You can get a pdf of the current version for 5 euro from the official website |

Speaking as someone who plays his games by going straight from work after traveling on public transport, I am tempted to suggest splitting the army lists off to a separate volume to reduce the weight or doing a rules only version like the Fire and Sword chaps did. But now I know about the PDF so cannot get much lighter than that. Realistically though I do find that fact that some factor "extras" are in the unit table and other factors are in the Abilities then more factors are in the melee combat resolution can by troublesome for my aging mind. I'll check out the forum as they are quite a good set of rules.

I split the rules and the army list and it cost £3.00 GBP as per the link! makes it a lot better to use |
Tired Mammal | 14 Jun 2019 6:07 a.m. PST |
So do I do it or wait till new edition…. Those £3.00 GBP could buy me some more 40 x 30mm bases or less than 1 beer in a hostelry (maybe 2 in Aldi). I see a link being pressed once I am away from works oppressive safe sites only and definitely no weapons, gaming or blogs policy, which strangely is happy about madaxeman (but not his apparently evil blog). |

Interested in playing these at some stage in the future, and possibly add them as a rules option at Hercé Salon de Guerre. Do they handle medieval battles well? Matt we like them and play them regularly. I think they'd be fine for medieval games. Small unit sizes and flexible games sizes are all a plus for me. A 100 point game is similar in size to a Basic Impetus game, while 200 points with three corps and commanders is a standard game. They're quite popular as a competition set. We had a cracking Battle of Saguntum recently – Sertorius vs Pompey: link Cheers Mike |
