Have not seen final series…DVD UK will be when???
But, where is all the comment? Have read enough to 'know' the outcome…but…I read the existing books before I watched the series.. spoilers are not a problem.
Danny was always a Targaryen…her story arc was the loss of innocence and high ideals and recognition of what rule and power entails. I would have liked a different end but…hope that there are intelligent messages involved, not just 'how do we end this quick!'
Not having watched the progs, I am a little worried that the whole 'Winter Is Coming' theme may have been a damp squib and lost…like the Direwolves! It seems a little too quick, somehow. But, having loved the show…I still hope not to be too disappointed.
Any comments…if not too sore from getting the 3 headed Dragon Tats lasered? I joke, Guys…miss the stuff!

Either a full season or another short season would have done justice to the show. Too many unresolved story threads coupled with the rushed feeling to make it fully satisfactory. But maybe the goal was to drive fanatics crazy speculating on what would/should/could have happened.

Bad endings are what the books and the show are all about, aren't they?

You will be disappointed…

The final series was just poor, honestly I struggled to stay interested in the final season as it was so poorly handled…….I think most fans have just moved on, having moved past the rage stage of how badly they screwed it up.

Torquemada11 Jun 2019 4:27 a.m. PST

What Earl said, unfortunately …

Shame, really. It used to be (IMO) the best thing on TV, but the last coupla seasons (again, IMO) totally ruined it.

Phrodon11 Jun 2019 7:16 a.m. PST

The last two seasons were almost like a different show. Very unsatisfying ending.

Phrodon11 Jun 2019 7:18 a.m. PST

I agree with Earl. After my initial rage/disappointment, I am just indifferent.

I kept the final season and "The Last Watch" on my DVR. I'm sure I'll watch it all again someday. Perhaps my perspective will change.

The Beast Rampant11 Jun 2019 12:30 p.m. PST

I agree with all above. I'm afraid that if I should someday decide to go back and watch it through again, the cracks and increasingly reckless haste of the latter seasons will be all the more apparent.

I can't imagine any longtime viewer of the series being satisfied with that last episode. It's like going to your favorite restaurant, and being served up something they found in a congealing puddle behind the dumpster.

JimSelzer11 Jun 2019 12:39 p.m. PST

Finished no worse than if G R R Martin had done it himself. So many spread out story arcs that no one was going to be happy

dwight shrute11 Jun 2019 2:52 p.m. PST

people will rush out and buy the books if he ever finishes them , hoping the books will be better than the TV

I was. It didn't knock my socks off but it was fine. The Night King battle was the stinker of season. One of the ones following it was pretty banal as well.

Wow!

Surely it cannot be worse than the final episode of Battlestar Galactica? (Which really WAS pavement pizza…after a very poor final season…following from some increasingly weird/tired storylines?).
Sounds a bit like The Hobbit…which I have not been able to force myself to watch…yet…or the later Terminators…slap in as much 'artistically' clever but bloody silly CGI…(I don't think it will be THAT bad! lol)…and everything will be great!

Oh well. I am determined to find SOMETHING that I will like! The cast were fantastic…and DRAGONS! lol.

Earl of the North12 Jun 2019 2:45 a.m. PST

I'd say it was worse, but then I thought Battlestar Galatica's quality declined with every season and by the end I just wanted them all to die and get it over with. With GOT the quality stayed high until the last couple of seasons and even then how bad the final season was shocking given the earlier quality. Its pretty much killed off any interest I had in the spin off shows as well.

Agreed…(except '6's'! Lol).

Without seeing GOT final season…why on earth did they go for short seasons, even with extended episodes…when they had an absolute winner??? More episodes = more ad contracts!

Reasons I have heard: CGR time or letting Martin get out another book. Wonder if writers were really for the format or pushed into it…they did a pretty good job until season 7. Oh well…waiting for DVD set.

I believe Dan Weiss and David Benioff (the guys in charge) wanted to leave, they are going to be making a Star Wars movie and just wanted to move on…….apparently they felt it was time to end it and rushed the ending rather than passing it on to other directors/producers.

In retrospect if they really didn't care to put the effort into the ending they should have passed it on and let others take the blame for the shows decline.

If true, possibly the worst move in media history! lol.

Once they got beyond Martin's books writing quality dropped preciptiously. Still we got some great battles – until the last season when even they got dull.

But in the end the show was just a very elobarate fan fiction. We'll get the real ending when Martin (finally) finishes the books.

Till then it remains a great setting for both one off battles and campaigns. Just rewrite the last season yourself on the table top – we do all the time with A Game of Knights & Knaves – and we've had lots of better endings.
