I really like most elements of TSATF but want to play larger engagements and and no keen on the melee mechanisms.

I think 800FE will fit the bill but, aside from 4 figure basing & melee, wondered if it retains the the majority of elements anf flavour of the main rules?

Are the TSATF event decks still usable with 800 FE?

Hi Nick B.

Some time ago I found myself in a similar situation, loving TSATF but also enjoying bigger games. Here's a LINK to a blog post I put up back in 2015, discussing the command & control aspects of TSATF vs. 800FE. I usually game the Second Afghan War or North-West Frontier, but if you play other campaigns it could still be worth checking out:

I believe The Virtual Armchair General may have some card decks specifically designed for use with 800FE.

I myself am a big fan of the classic TSATF melee mechanisms and use them mostly intact for my own bastardized combination of TSATF/800FE, but I know some feel like they take too long, especially in bigger games. But my own bastardized version aside, IMHO the straight 800FE rules retain much of the flavor, as well as some of the mechanisms of classic TSATF, such as hidden movement for Native forces, and use of a slightly adjusted version of the card deck to activate units for movement and fire.

Nick B, TVAG definitely does have specific decks for 800 FE. I was lucky enough to partake in Mad Guru's game at Colonisl Barracks Con and his blend of TSATF & 800 FE worked perfectly. We got through a bunch of turns and had an awesome time. The game was actually pretty epic!
Cheers,
JB
