Hello folks .I am new to ancients but have recently started painting some 28mm imperial romans and some celts from victrix's outstanding range . As the first units are nearing completion I'm looking for a set of rules for skirmish level battles. I have about 50 Romans and 100 celts if that helps. Thanks in advance for any advice.

For that many figures I would suggest getting a copy of GWs Lord of the Rings strategy battle game rules. Whilst designed for fantasy, they work very well for mid-sized skirmish games without bogging down in detail.

Lion Rampant with link?
If you want a skirmish game rather because you still lack another 200 miniatures, you could consider DBA in 28mm. Or try Triumph!

I converted GMTs Simple Great Battle of History rules very easily. Just convert hexes to inches. Like them very much. We've played Raphia to great success and I am going to do Boudicca next. The board game games a great and stood the test of time. Porting to miniatures has been a snap.

Thanks for the suggestions. Lion Rampant looks interesting,so does triumph. Just seen warlord games has a new warband size game for Romans ,celts etc..coming out in july. Looks like I got decisions to make and Romans to paint.

Hi Jay, I was going to suggest wait for SPQR or even Clash of Spears, both are ancient skirmish sets and may have more period favour.
